Boston day three

Today we took a horse and buggy ride around the local area. The reins were held by a guy named Bob who let his horse Barney do the route by memory while he talked about his German Indian ancestry, politics and why the US middle class would have started a war if Hilary Clinton had won the election. Hmm! Anyway, the tour was very interesting despite the constant need to be tactful.

We also took the lift up to the 26th floor observation deck of the hotel. Enjoy some photos of the view:

1 and 2. Horse and buggy.

3 and 4. Harbour views.

5. Roof top restaurant next door. A meal with a view.

6. View of the State House. The Declaration of Independence was read from its balcony on 4 July 1776.

Boston day two

We took a trolley ride around the town and a cruise on the harbour so we could check out places we did not see on our last visit six years ago. The downtown area has changed quite a bit in that time but it was good to see that plenty of the old familiar Boston architecture still remains.

We took 90 photos today! So it was pretty hard to pick which ones to post. But here goes:

1. Locks on the Charles River.

2 and 3. 2 is Starbucks with a gold teapot. In colonial days a tea shop would have displayed such a teapot to advertise its stock. 3 with ladies boot symbol.

4. Symphony Hall. Home of the Boston Pops Orchestra.

5. Typical of the old gas lamps in numerous Boston streets. They love their heritage here.

6 and 7. Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.

8. ’Temporary’ performance hall still operating after 20 years.

9. Tobin Bridge. Longer than San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Note the two tiers of roadway.

10. Boston Fire Rescue boat.

11. Boston Skyline from the harbour.

12. Boston law courts

Kauai and Boston

We are now in the lovely harbor district of Boston at the Marriot Custom House. As we now have more reliable internet we can show you some more of the photos of Kauai that we couldn't upload the other day as well as some of our current hotel and surroundings. We will blog about the city as we travel around.

Kauai second day

The cruise ends tomorrow so this will be the last blog for a couple of days until we arrive in Boston.

Today Phil took the movie tour with Jamie and Gary while Sue further stimulated the local retail sector. Eighty movies have been made on Kauai since the 1940s, including classics like Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park, Blue Hawaii and other Elvis movies, and South Pacific. So there were lots of interesting and pretty places to see including beautiful Wailua Falls, Hanamaulu Bay, Moloaa Bay and Hanalei Valley and Hanalei Bay.

Unfortunately I am having problems downloading photos today and it appears to have something to do with the ship's lousy wifi. Hopefully I will be able to resolve the issue in Boston.
